STI Conference 2016 Valencia: Peripheries, Frontiers and Beyond | September 2016

This conference, organized in cooperation between INGENIO [CSIC-UPV] and ENID, aims to stimulate reflection on the challenges posed to S&T indicator development and use in geographical, cognitive or social spaces that are peripheral or marginal to the centres of economic, scientific or technological activity. The focus is also on emerging areas of research and innovation that are inadequately described by existing, quantitative or qualitative indicators. [STI website]
6th Global TechMining Conference | September
In conjunction with the 21st International Conference on Science and Technology Indicators, on September 13, 2016 was held the 6th Global TechMining Conference at the Universitat Politècnica de València attended by about 80 people. Tech Mining, a special form of “Big Data” analytics, aimed to generate Competitive Technical Intelligence (CTI) using bibliometric and text-mining software as well as other analytical & visualization applications for analyses of Science, Technology & Innovation (ST&I) information resources. The goal of the conference was to engage cross-disciplinary networks of analysts, software specialists, researchers, policymakers, and managers to advance the use of textual information in multiple science, technology, and business development fields. Erasmus+ Programme Capacity Building in Higher Education: FOSTERC
Focusing on the National priorities fixed by Belarus, the main aim of FOSTERC is to support the modernisation of governance, management and functioning of Belarusian Higher Education Institutions. For that, FOSTERC will:
  • Provide indicators for conceptualize learning outcomes in terms of competencies (knowledge, skills and attitudes)
  • Upgrade and improve innovative training methods and the development of pedagogical creativity
  • Equip Belarusian Higher Education Institutions with the necessary information tool to facilitate the implementation of internal and external quality assurance systems/guidelines
  • Modernize the systems and practices of data collection and analysis in the Belarusian HE system through the development of an integrated 'Management Information System' improving HEIs' management in teaching and learning activities. [Read More]

    Frank van Rijnsoever

    Frank has been a visiting researcher at INGENIO two times over the last year. He is a Assistant professor at Utrecht University.

    Last September was the second time that I had the opportunity to visit Ingenio, and the reception and stay was as warm at the first time. All colleagues also did their best help me where possible, and to make me feel at home. They more than succeeded. I really enjoyed becoming involved in research projects about university-industry interactions at the group with people like Ximo, Pablo or Ismael. I also enjoyed the long lunches in the sun or drinks with Davide, Richard, Jordi, François and the aforementioned people, which allowed us to exchange ideas in a less formal manner, and to debate academic culture. I really look forward to further concretize the projects that we have initiated and to start new projects in the future. To facilitate this process, Jordi has kindly arranged that I will become a guest researcher for the coming three years. In other words: I’ll be back!
