Science policy in (in?)action: between researchers, politicians and bureaucrats.
This informal discussion would be centred around the "non-research" component of public science policy within a government context, based on part on personal experience in the field (in Canada) and in part on existing scholarly perspectives. Broadly, this is an opportunity to explore the relationships between practitioners and researchers in science policy. The presentation will first briefly introduce an instance of science policy through the Canadian "S&T system". The remainder of the presentation and ensuing disucssion could then address: 1) some of the main issues or trends and how they are framed; and 2) the overall challenges and opportunities in the field and how they might relate to science policy research.
