Global Change Biology
By analysing how the IPCC global assessments reports (ARs) from AR1 to AR5 have addressed agriculture, and more lately, food security, in the context of climate change, Porter et al. (2019) acknowledge the need to take a food systems approach. This is absolutely necessary since the objective of the ARs is to produce policy‐relevant evaluations to guarantee world food security along with environmental and just sustainability. Also, a food systems approach opens the door to produce new knowledge, analyse emergent properties of the system and find innovative solutions which cannot be reached with fragmented analyses.
