There is an increased awareness that the success of innovation in healthcare is hindered by the fragmentation of various types of knowledge across organisations and communities. As a consequence, there have been numerous initiatives to develop spaces where different communities engaged in healthcare can interact and share knowledge with the explicit goal of fostering medical innovation. These are often labelled “translational research” initiatives, and they are expected to result in an improvement of the interfaces among the diverse disciplines and professions involved in healthcare. This workshop aims to foster debate and understanding of these “translational research” processes among stakeholders involved in medical innovation.
