David Barberá and Fernando Jiménez awarded Faculty of 1000 (F1000) research prize
David Barberá and Fernando Jiménez, researchers at INGENIO (CSIC-UPV), have been awarded the prestigious Faculty of 1000 (F1000) academic prize for their article “Mapping the Importance of the Real World”. The article, which was published in the leading journal “Research Policy”, was co-authored by Itziar Castelló from the Copenhagen Business School. The paper presents a study of the evolution of medical technologies and uses a new technique of patent analysis. It has been included in the top 2% of the most important papers in medicine and biology for 2011, in the category “Statistical Methodologies”.
F1000 identify and evaluate the most important papers about research in medicine and biology. A peer-nominated 'Faculty' of scientists and clinicians rate the articles they read and explain their importance. The Faculty includes 5 Nobel prize winners, 81 fellows of The Royal Society, 12 Lasker Award winners, 136 members of NAS and 97 members of the Institute of Medicine. It is very uncommon for F1000 to select papers coming from the Social Sciences: following the selection of the paper by F1000 its results have subsequently been mentioned on the prominent US scientific website VerticalNews.com.
