Doctora en Derecho por la U. de Valencia en el Programa de Derechos Humanos y Democracia y Catedrática del Departamento de Proyectos de Ingeniería de la U. Politécnica de Valencia. Vicedirectora del Instituto Ingenio (CSIC-UPV).

Ha sido investigadora invitada en el Institute of Development Studies en Sussex (2007), el Institute of Social Studies de la Haya (2009), Research Centre for Leadership in Action de la U. de Nueva York (2011), el Instituto Pensar de la U. Javieriana de Bogota (2011 y 2013), la U. de Free State de Sudáfrica (2013 y 2014) y la University College of London (2016-17). Special Lecture de la U. de Nottingham (2008-2012) y Honorary Professor de la University of the Free State en África del Sur.

Investigadora principal de diferentes proyectos de investigación (2005-2017) sobre educación para el desarrollo, cooperación internacional y desarrollo humano, innovación social de base y cambio climático,  financiados por el MCIIN, AECID, la UPV y la Secretaría de Estado de Universidades. Participante en distintos proyectos europeos: EDUWEL enmarcado en el programa Marie Curie (2010-2014), SOCIETY financiado por el 7 Programa Marco (2013-2015), Global Engineering financiado por Europe Aid (2013-2015),  Global Identity through Human Development (2014), Students 4 Change. Social Entrepeneurship in Academia (2016-2019) Motion (Building a Methodology and Community of Practice for Catalyzing Transformative Change through System Innovation 2019-2021). Participante activo del Transformative Innovation Policy Consortium.

Coordinadora de la Red de la red CYTED (Programa Iberoamericano de Ciencia y Tecnología para el Desarrollo) Análisis multidimensional de las interacciones universidad-sociedad en Iberoamérica para el período 2018-2021 que aglutina a 13 instituciones iberoamericanas.

Las temáticas de interés principales son el desarrollo humano, la universidad, la educación para el desarrollo, los proyectos de cooperacion y el desarrollo, la cooperación internacional, la innovasion social desde la base, la investigacion acción y el cambio climático.

Editora asociada del Journal of Human Development and Capability (2009-) y de la Iberoamerican Journal of Development Studies (2012-). Vicepresidenta de la International Development Ethics Association (2011-2018) y miembro de la Junta Directiva y socia fundadora de la Red EspañolaEstudios en Desarrollo (2011-2018).

Galadornada con el University College of London Grand Challenge Prize (sept. 2019) "for a meaningful engagement between academics and practitioners in using the capability approach".
