His work has been published in journals such as Research Policy, JASIST, PLOS ONE, Journal of Informetrics, and Research Evaluation, among others. He serves on the Editorial Board of PLOS ONE and Revista Española de Documentación Científica.

Previously, Adrián was a Postdoctoral Researcher at INGENIO under highly competitive programmes: JIN projects, Juan de la Cierva Incorporación and Juan de la Cierva Formación. He enjoyed a PhD fellowship (JAE predoc) at the Centre for Human and Social Sciences (CCHS) at CSIC in Madrid, where he conducted his doctoral research under the guidance of Professor María Bordons (2011-15). He became interested in quantitative science studies working as a Research Assistant at the Department of Statistics at the University of Salamanca (2009-11). In between academic positions, he worked at the Office for General Statistics and Studies, an agency under the Spanish Ministry of Education (2016-17). He has been a visiting scholar at CWTS at Leiden University, Dalhousie University, Imperial College Business School, and the University of Copenhagen.
